Julia Computing Is Now JuliaHub: The JuliaHub platform is designed to accelerate the development and deployment of Julia programs by technical users in a variety of engineering and computational disciplines. JuliaHub makes it easy for Julia users to explore the open source ecosystem to create, share and manage packages, to leverage parallel computing and GPUs for large-scale computations, and to serve Julia applications through web APIs. In addition to being a general purpose platform, JuliaHub also provides a suite of vertical domain-specific products that leverage this platform, including JuliaSim, Pumas, PumasQSP and Cedar. JuliaHub is cloud-first but is also available on-prem and even air-gapped.

JuliaHub has become the heart of our business and strategy, to the extent that people in the Julia community often think the company is already named JuliaHub. It only makes sense to rename the company to reflect that focus and direction,” explains Stefan Karpinksi, Julia co-creator and JuliaHub co-founder and Chief Product Officer.

What isn’t changing?

  • JuliaHub powers a game-changing, composable product suite for modeling and simulation. This includes Pumas and PumasQSP for drug development, JuliaSim for modeling and simulation of multi-physical systems, and Cedar for electronic design automation

JuliaCon 2023 Call for Proposals: The JuliaCon 2023 Call for Proposals is open now until December 18. Do you have an exciting new Julia use case? Have you solved a difficult problem using Julia? Any topic that would be of interest to the Julia community is eligible. Formats include talks (30 minutes), lightning talks (10 minutes), minisymposia (2-3 hours), workshops (3 hours), posters, birds-of-a-feather/interest groups (one hour breakout sessions), experiences (3 minutes) and online only talks. Julia at the American Statistical Association: Dr. Josh Day (JuliaHub) joined the American Statistical Association (ASA) Section on Statistical Computing (SSC) Mini-Symposium to present the Julia portion of the Data Jamboree. The Data Jamboree uses Julia, Python and R to solve the same problems using New York City motor vehicle crash data.

Quantum Computing with Julia: Dr. Katharine Hyatt (Center for Computational Quantum Physics, Flatiron Institute) has published Introducing Braket.jl - Quantum Computing with Julia. “Braket.jl is a new, experimental package that lets you build quantum circuits and programs in Julia and run them on Amazon Braket. It's a ground-up rewrite of the Amazon Braket Python SDK allowing Julia users and developers to work with Amazon Braket and quantum computing in their preferred language. The package is Apache-2.0 licensed, and currently supports Julia >=1.6 on x64 Windows, Linux, or OSX. Amazon Braket is a fully managed AWS service that helps researchers, scientists, and developers get started with quantum computing. Through Amazon Braket, you can develop, run, test, and benchmark quantum algorithms on state-of-the-art quantum hardware and simulators.” Click here for more information.

Julia Goes Greek: Numerical Linear Algebra and Scientific Calculations by Professor Marilena Mitroulis is a new Greek language mathematics textbook using Julia. “An innovation of the book is the presentation of selected scientific calculations in the Julia programming language. This language is particularly friendly for table calculations and is freely available (open source software). It is worth noting that in 2019, the highly prestigious James H. Wilkinson Prize for Numerical Software was awarded to researchers who contributed to its development.” More information is available here.

Julia for Biologists Workshop: Dr. Elisabeth Roesch (JuliaHub) and Professor Yoni Nazarathy (University of Queensland) are presenting a Julia for Biologists workshop Wed Nov 23. The workshop is part of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) BioInfoSummer, hosted by Melbourne Integrated Genomics at the University of Melbourne (UoM). Click here for more information.

Julia Will Help Predict How Cells Become Humans: The Australian Research Council (ARC) is establishing a new Centre for Excellence for the Mathematical Analysis of Cellular Systems which will use Julia “to help to build mathematical models that can predict and show the biological processes of cells forming into humans.” Click here for more information.

Design World Ranks Julia Among Top 5 Greenest Programming Languages: The Computer Language Benchmarks Game (CLBG) ranks languages by energy efficiency based on how much energy is used to complete 13 benchmark problems. Julia ranked in the top 5, according to Design World, along with C, C++, Rust and Ada.

Julia for Genomics: A Simple Stochastic Model Describing the Evolution of Genomic GC Content in Asexually Reproducing Organisms is a new Scientific Reports paper by Jon Bohlin available from Nature. Click here for more.
