The programming language community is well-known for high-precision numerics mixed with the speed and machine learning required for the real world. What better place is there to discuss applications than with the Dutch tech community? In March of 2023 JuliaHub’s VP of Modeling and Simulation, Dr. Chris Rackauckas gave a talk along with MIT’s Valentin Churavy to share some of the latest advancements at the “Silicon Valley of the Netherlands”. This Meetup Event was a sold-out, standing-room-only event at the ASML lounge in the Philips Stadium in the heart of Eindhoven. Parties interested in Julia and experienced enthusiasts gathered around to discuss how machine learning is being integrated into the modeling and simulation stack.
The night started off with Meetup organizer Matthijs Cox of ASML demonstrating the many uses of Julia throughout the Netherlands. From new tools for optimization to finite element modeling and Bayesian inference tools, the Dutch community displays a wide interest in applications of Julia from research all the way to production. Afterward, the community shared many more uses of Julia throughout the Benelux region.
It continued with MIT’s Valentin Churavy doing a demonstration/tutorial on performance profiling and GPU acceleration of Julia code. To end the event, Chris Rackauckas, VP of Modeling and Simulation at JuliaHub took the stage to give a talk titled SciML = Scientific Computing + Machine Learning.
Participants from a wide range of industries shared their interest and experience with Julia throughout the next and discussions at a local pub spawned new collaborations.
